Actions and Detail Panel
Observer 50th Reunion
Fri, Apr 21, 2017, 2:30 PM – Sat, Apr 22, 2017, 11:30 PM EDT
Come back to campus to celebrate 50 years of independent student journalism with past writers, editors, photographers, ad reps, designers, comics and those people who were always in the office but you never knew why. Connect with old friends, meet some new ones and learn what the latest student journalists are doing to comfort the freshmen and afflict the admistration.
The weekend begins with a panel discussion with Observer alumni 2:30 p.m. at Carey Auditorium, Hesburgh Library.
Starting at 5 p.m., gather in the Oak Room (above the entrance to South Dining Hall) for a reception. The offices will also be open in the basement so you can relive your glory days (or brag about how you got to experience the LaFortune offices).
On Saturday, we'll meet for a tailgate before the Irish take the field for the Blue and Gold Game (we promise, Brian Kelly won't lose this one). Location TBD. Be sure you join The Observer 50th Reunion group on Facebook so you can get the most up-to-date info once we have a parking spot.
After the game, put on your dancing shoes and your finest SYR outfits and head over to the Hilton Garden Inn on Saint Mary's campus. From 7 pm to 11:30 pm we'll have a dinner reception with plenty of opportunities to make even more Observer memories.
The cost for the weekend is $115. It includes the tailgate (lunch and drinks) and the reception (dinner and open bar) on Saturday.
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Email NDSMCObserverAlumni@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Does the $115 include a ticket to the game?
No. Please purchase your own ticket through the box office.
Can I bring my spouse, partner, friend, significant other, etc?
Yes. You can bring a guest. It is $115 per person.
Is there a block of rooms reserved?
No. Because it is the Blue and Gold Game weekend, we can't get a block of rooms reserved. However, GameDay Housing, owned by an Observer alum, is offering 10% off rentals for the weekend. Visit GamedayHousing.com and note you have a coupon that expires on 12/31/17. Email NDSMCObserver@gmail.com to get a coupon to print.
Do you need any extra money to pay for this?
No. We've calculated based on expected attendance that $115 should cover all the costs. If we have any extra money, it will be donated to the The Robert P. Schmuhl Honorary Endowment for Excellence.
What if I can't attend all the events? Are there any discounts?
We've tried to price the event as low as possible. This pricing strategy does not allow for ala carte pricing. However, if you only want to attend the tailgate or panels or Friday night reception but not the dinner reception on Saturday night, please contact NDSMCObserverAlumni@gmail.com and we can work something out.
I can't attend but I still want to share my memories. Is there someway I can participate?
Of course. We need your feedback on the top stories of the last 50 years. The best front pages. Your favorite photos. We'll be sending out emails looking for your submissions. You can send them to NDSMCObserverAlumni@gmail.com. Also be sure to follow ObserverAlumni on twitter for updates and a trip down memory lane.
