Event description

Description

Special Session on Observations and Numerical Modeling of the Coastal Ocean Zone Dynamics - ONM-CozD 2019

3 - 5 May, 2019 - Heraklion, Crete, Greece

Within the 5th International Conference on Geographical Information Systems Theory, Applications and Management - GISTAM 2019

SCOPE

Processes in the ocean coastal area affect many aspects of life all around the world. To study hydrodynamical phenomena, pollution distribution, coastal deterioration and interaction with natural and artificial structures we can use both observations and numerical simulation. In the workshop we will focus on mixing processes, sediments distribution, internal waves, instabilities and turbulence, fluid-structure interaction, offshore and onshore wind farms, radar and lidar observation, GIS and corresponding data analysis. Different approaches for numerical simulations and interpretations of results will be discussed. There will be a discussion on how GIS method could be applied for the identification the optimal onshore, offshore wind farm sites in Russia, based not only on wind potential, but also on additional criteria.

Topics:
- Coastal area hydrodynamical phenomena
- Pollution distribution
- Coastal deterioration and interaction with natural and artificial structures
- Numerical simulations of mixing processes, instabilities and internal waves
- Radar and lidar observation

SCOPE

The International Conference on Geographical Information Systems Theory, Applications and Management aims at creating a meeting point of researchers and practitioners that address new challenges in geo-spatial data sensing, observation, representation, processing, visualization, sharing and managing, in all aspects concerning both information communication and technologies (ICT) as well as management information systems and knowledge-based systems. The conference welcomes original papers of either practical or theoretical nature, presenting research or applications, of specialized or interdisciplinary nature, addressing any aspect of geographic information systems and technologies.
