Urban Terrarium Diorama Workshop

Do you obsessively collect tiny unique objects as you explore? Do rocks, bits of glass smoothed by the city streets, tiny metal gears, random dice, colorful marbles, broken toy parts, and mysterious objects find their way into your pockets as you walk?

In this workshop you will make a unique living terrarium in a glass container which doubles as a curio display for your tiny treasures! A variety of glass, plants, pebbles and tools will be provided. Students are encouraged to bring a handful of tiny special objects and stories about how you found them! Kim will walk you through different techniques for working small, stacking both plants and objects for maximum effect and will help you create your very own, one of a kind terrarium menagerie to take home and show off!

Kim Holleman is a Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary artist who attended The Cooper Union for The Advancement of Science and Art in New York and the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, Holland. Her award-winning work, Trailer Park: A Mobile Public Park debuted at The Storefront for Art and Architecture in 2006. It has been on display at multiple galleries, events, and conferences around New York. Holleman was a finalist in the international ONE Prize interdisciplinary architectural competition and has recently had the honor of presenting her work at the recent TEDx conference at The Cooper Union.  Her work is now on view at Front Room as part of the gallery’s Summer Sampler show.
