Obscura Society LA: Descanso Gardens, Unplugged
Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM (PST)
La Cañada Flintridge, CA
Join Atlas Obscura's Editor in Chief on National Day of Unplugging as she escapes the shackles of the internet to sniff out a story at Descanso Gardens
Internet addiction is currently being considered as an official mental disorder by the American Psychiatric Association. The National Day of Unplugging is trying to get you on the wagon, at least for one beautiful spring day.
Here at the Atlas we are admittedly pushers, in the business of finding amazing things all over the world to show online. No one spends more time plugged in than our tireless editors but often, even our most square-eyed team members need to put down the coffee, put on some pants, and do some in-person exploring.
Dan Rollman from RecordSetter.com and one of the creators of the National Day of Unplugging and Reboot invite you to join Rachel, our Editor in Chief, as she emerges from her dark office batcave to see if there is anything unusual, unnoticed, or hopefully, potentially poisonous at Descanso Gardens, an as-of-yet unexplored (by us) botanical garden in La Canada Flintridge.
Marvel at her creative process, which consists of asking employees uncomfortable questions, ignoring “Keep Out” signs, and flapping her arms like a lunatic when she's spotted something that pleases her. Take part in the challenging, but often quite rewarding task that is trying to find that special something that everyone else simply passes by, oblivious. Be a part of the early Obscura Society process, scouting out a location. Wear a silly hat. She loves silly hats.
Please RSVP below so we know how many to expect, and bring the 8 dollars for admission to the gardens. For more info on National Day of Unplugging, visit their website at: National Day of Unplugging
Details: Group will meet in front of the entrance at 11:45am, and enter at 12:00pm sharp.
Tickets will not be sold by the Obscura Society for this event, all participants are responsible for their own entry fee into the gardens. ($8) Tram tours inside are an additional $4, Enchanted Railroad an additional $3.
Please wear appropriate footwear and be prepared for walking.
This event is family friendly.
