Obscura Day 2017: Absinthe and Curiosities at the Last Tuesday Society
Sat, May 6, 2017, 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM BST
Kick off this year's Obscura Day with a demonstration on the traditional Belle Epoque style of drinking Absinthe. Sip on a pre-Prohibition era recipe of the infamous green spirit whilst surrounded by the charming decor of London's most curious cocktail bar.
Afterwards, guests will be invited to explore the weird and wonderful world of the Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities, Fine Art & Natural History. Admission to the museum, a museum guidebook, and a refreshing serving of Absinthe are all included. Table reservations can be booked for anytime between 12pm–7pm to partake in this event; details will be provided when you purchase your ticket.
The Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities, Fine Art & Natural History, or the Last Tuesday Society shop as it’s more generally known, is a 21st century take on the classic Victorian cabinet of curiosities, located in East London. It takes its official name from the “pataphysical” Last Tuesday Society Chancellor, Viktor Wynd. The Society “is devoted to exploring and furthering the esoteric, literary and artistic aspects of life in London and beyond."
After enjoying your pre-Prohibition cocktail, you can step inside and glimpse everything from polar bears to peacocks, quartz dildos to vintage speculums, winged animals to insect sculptures, skulls of all sizes and origins, anatomical anomalies, and even a couple of mermaids.
We promise that your curiosity—and your thirst—will be quenched.
- The event takes place at The Last Tuesday Society, 11 Mare St.
- Instructions for reserving a table for your Absinthe tasting, followed by museum exploration, will be provided when you book your ticket.
