Objects:Portals Writing workshop
Overview
The Jewish ritual of the seder is an exercise in immersive storytelling. What we eat, sing and touch bridges time, connecting us with our ancestors, even allowing us to inhabit their experience.
As writers we often nudge up against the limits of memory. By using the seder as a model we can access a writing practice that furthers our transportations through space and time, while remaining grounded in our present.
Join Adam Kammerling to explore the time-warping potential of the seder ritual, and the creative writing practices that find their transportational quality through interfacing with inanimate objects.
In this online workshop, we will explore these ideas through discussion, exploring wider related works, writing exercises, sharing and questions.
Through our interfacing with inanimate objects we are able to move through our own experience, and the experiences of those that came before us.
Adam Kammerling is an award-winning poet, interdisciplinary artist and educator.
His most recent works include Seder, his debut poetry collection, which was a finalist in the National Jewish Book Awards, Shall We Take This Outside, a three-person spoken-word/dance theatre show that toured nationally, and Inside!, a piece of poetry/rave theatre commissioned by Centrepoint and the Saatchi Gallery.
This workshop is open to individuals aged 16 and over of all abilities. We invite all participants to bring an object that is meaningful to them to use during the session.
