Description

Due to space on the bus we have to limit the club to 50 students, so act fast!

To Register: reserve a “ticket” through Eventbrite, https://oakhillski18.eventbrite.com. The reservation system will go live on Sunday, November 5th @ 7pm.

Eventbrite will be used to tentatively hold spots on a first-come, first-serve basis, pending the completion & return of the follow items before November 17th:

  1. Ski & Snowboard Club Registration Form https://goo.gl/forms/1mKxPtaPBC7mvfsm2
  2. Newton Public Schools Day Field Trip Consent Form
  3. $120 cash or a check made payable to Oak Hill Middle School for bus rental.

Upon receipt of these items, families will receive a code & directions to register with Wachusett. At this point, families will be able to purchase lift tickets, rentals, and/or lessons.

Return all forms + fees to Mr. Westenberg by 11/17/17 to guarantee your spot. Should the club reach capacity, the school coordinator will maintain a waiting list to fill any additional slots that become available.

General Information: The Oak Hill Ski and Snowboard Club is back! Once again, we will sponsor six Wednesday trips to Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, MA. Our 2018 dates are: January 3rd, January 10th, January 17th, January 24th, January 31st, and February 14th (make-up date is February 28th). Please be aware that if any trip is rescheduled due to inclement weather, Wachusett may not make up lessons if there are other schools that do not cancel.

Departure/Return: The bus will depart Oak Hill promptly at 2:45pm. We are scheduled to leave Wachusett at 6:30pm and return to Oak Hill at approximately 7:30pm. Parents/guardians are responsible for picking up their children at Oak Hill. Please plan on being at Oak Hill no later than 7:30pm to pick up your child.

Gear: Students may bring their own gear or rent from Wachusett at an additional cost (see below). Secure storage will be provided at Oak Hill during the school day for students who bring their own gear. Students bringing skis/snowboards to school while either need to walk or be dropped off. As per NPS policy, skis and snowboards may not be transported on any yellow school bus. Please plan accordingly.

Lessons: Lessons begin at 5:00pm and end at 6:00pm. As per Wachusett policy, all new skiers and snowboarders are required to take lessons. Lessons are optional for all other levels. Students who do not take lessons will have the entire time free for skiing/boarding and will have access to all open trails at Wachusett Mountain.

Dinner: Dinner is not provided. Many students choose to eat at the mountain concession area at their own expense.

Chaperones: Chaperones are available to assist students with rentals, putting on equipment, finding ski instructors, obtaining first aid, and addressing other issues. Due to the nature of Ski and Snowboard Club, chaperones are unable to provide direct supervision of students at all times. Chaperones will be available in a designated area of the lodge for students with questions or problems.

Helmets: All Oak Hill Students are required to wear helmets while skiing/snowboarding. Students should bring a helmet from home or sign up to rent one.

Participation Requirements: Ski and Snowboard Club conflicts with the schedules for the winter musical and boys and girls basketball. At the request of our staff who run these programs, students cannot participate both in Ski Club and the musical or basketball. In addition, participants should be able to independently problem-solve and seek out assistance from chaperones or Wachusett staff as needed.

Cost: The cost of transportation via chartered coach bus is $120 cash or check. Make checks payable to Oak Hill Middle School. Lift tickets, lessons, and rentals cost extra (see below) and are purchased directly from Wachusett once registration is confirmed with the school coordinator.

2018 Lift Ticket & Rental Costs (for 6 weeks):

  • $120 for lift ticket (required)
  • $100 for ski/snowboard rental (optional)
  • $60 for lessons (required for beginners, optional for others)
  • $20 for helmet rental (optional to rent; all students must wear helmets)

A EEE club fee will also be charged, as per NPS policy.
