O, Crux Ave: Music under the Cross with Jane VanHouten
O, Crux Ave --Music under the Cross, Jane VanHouten
Join us for a Journey into Lent intertwining reflection, art, music and community. This retreat will offer a space of elegant simplicity as we journey through Lent visually, musically and spiritually. We will work to understand that our Lenten journeys are not about becoming lost in feelings of brokenness but about cleansing the palate so that we can taste life more fully.
Jane is the Director of Music at Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM), a large parish and school of 1,400 families in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Throughout her career, Jane has brought the religious experience to life through music, illuminating the connection between the liturgy, music and community, drawing out the musical gifts of others, and reminding all parishioners of 1 Timothy, 4:14: “Do not neglect the Gift you have.” She is an accomplished musician on the piano and organ, and a rousing choral and instrumental conductor with an eclectic musical repertoire. Jane believes choral and instrumental works are offered not as performances, but as a form of prayer.
