The Vedic texts speak of two opposite and complimentary forces — the fiery, radiant, solar principle of Agni, and the cooling, flowing, lunar nectar of Soma. The hymns to Agni and Soma form some of the richest poetic verse in Indian tradition, and it is here we find the earliest spiritual foundations of the practice of yoga.
The dance of Agni and Soma is reflected everywhere — in what we eat, in how we breathe, in how we meditate and how we pray. It is reflected in every asana we do on the mat, in how we approach the practice of life and the practice of yoga.
Join instructors Josh Schrei, Cigall Eacott, and guest yoga and ayurveda instructors for this two-week journey into the elemental roots of yoga practice in the beautiful temple towns of south India. As we visit temples to the five elements and ashrams all across the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu, we will explore what it means to honor Agni and Soma in our practice and our lives.
Along our journey, we will open and close each day with a traditional Vedic fire ceremony, honoring Agni and Soma in this time-honored ritual.
Our mornings will start with a three-hour practice of asana, meditation, and breathwork. In the afternoons participants will have the choice of exploring the many important spiritual sites in the region, relaxing and receiving Ayurvedic treatments, or participating in four-hour yogic study sessions that will make it possible for people to complete 100-hours of Yoga Alliance certified training towards their 200- or 500-hour certification.
This retreat has been made purposefully affordable for those who are seeking to get their teaching certification. There will be scholarships available! Details soon.
