Sat, April 22, 2017, 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM EDT
National Day of Service (NDOS) 2017 STEAM Conference: Reaching Your Dream With STEAM
The S.T.E.A.M Conference is one of the New York Urban League Young Professionals (NYULYP) community engagement program composed of one full day where young people (middle and high school) are exposed to careers under the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts/Architecture and Mathematics umbrella. Members of these fields provides hands on learning projects along with personal stories about their career in the field by facilitating workshops or being a part of the panel discussion. These young people are also provided with access to information for college and career choices within the fields which is done through a market place happening simultaneously with the workshops. Our goal is to provide exposure and context as to why STEAM is relevant and important in the 21st century economy, to demystify STEM education, and to debunk myths and stereotypes about the fields.
