Event description

Description

The Morrisania neighborhood was the home to many jazz musicians and was also one of the
cradles of Hip hop in the Bronx. This walking tour will explore the jazz, doo-wop, Latin music and hip hop history of the neighborhood as well as its social history from the fires that raged in the 1970s to the social activism that has built it back up. The tour will be led by folklorist and Co-artistic Director of the Bronx Music Heritage Center, which brings classes, concerts, film screenings, and artist residencies that reflect the area’s deep cultural roots.

Meeting place: #2/5 trains to Freeman Street, meet in front of the Bronx Music Heritage Center
