Event Details

We are pleased to announce that the New York Housing Conference is partnering with Nixon Peabody to present a special Housing Market and Rent Law Policy Symposium on September 10th from 8:30-11:30am at the CUNY Grad Center. This event will kick-off with a presentation from a Street Easy/Zillow economist featuring the organization's latest research on local and national housing market trends and will be followed by a panel discussion on their impact on affordable rentals and homes. Our second panel will focus on The Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019 and ways it can impact past, present and future affordable housing projects and investments.

Housing Market Trends Impact on Affordable Rental and Homeownership (9-10:15)

Stay up-to-date on the latest multifamily and single family housing markets trends in New York City and across the country, how they correlate with access to affordable rental and homeownership opportunities and directly impact renters and aspiring homeowners. Grant Long, the Senior Economist from Streeteasy/Zillow, will present their newest housing data, including some from a-yet-to-be published report, and it will be followed by an insightful discussion by local housing experts moderated by Laura Kusisto, the Wall Street Journal's U.S. housing and economics reporter. Speakers:

  • Robert Riggs, Community Preservation Corporation
  • Grant Long, Zillow/Streeteasy Group
  • Christie Peale, Center for NYC Neighborhoods
  • Moderator: Laura Kusisto, Wall Street Journal

State Rent Regulation Changes: What Affordable Housing Developers Need to Know (10:15-11:30am)

While our state and local agencies continue to dive into the complicated Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act to parse out all of its implications and start preparing guidance for the industry, don’t miss the chance to hear our expert panelists’ thoughts about the rent law changes and how they will impact existing affordable housing deals and transactions going forward as well as opportunities in the housing market. This Housing Issues in Focus panel will also include a discussion on the reforms’ impact on future cooperative and condominium conversions. Speakers:

  • Ericka Buckley, Nixon Peabody LLP
  • Rick Gropper, Camber Property Group
  • Alexa Sewell, Settlement Housing Fund
  • Aaron Yowell, Nixon Peabody LLP
  • Moderator: Deborah VanAmerongen, Nixon Peabody LLP
