If you're earning even part of your living as an artist, designer or maker, you should consider whether forming a separate business entity is the right decision for you. This workshop will begin with the questions to ask yourself on the road to making that decision. Then, we’ll move on to discussing the most common business structures for artists, from remaining a sole proprietor, to limited liability companies, the standard corporation types, and even the new benefit corporation option. To help you determine which structure is best for your particular situation, we’ll review several important considerations with each option, including the complexity and costs of formation, ongoing responsibilities, and tax treatment.

Zak Shusterman advises a range of entrepreneurs, creatives and organizations in both the for-profit and non-profit sector during all stages of their development. His clients include individual artists and producers, arts councils, arts centers, and world-renowned entertainers. Zak's been twice recognized as a Rising Star in the nonprofit sector. He regularly presents workshops for artists, entrepreneurs and nonprofits.
