Learn how to turn your research into a startup!
NYU, in collaboration with CUNY and Columbia, will offer a seven-week immersive course for faculty and their grad students/postdocs to help transform academic research into a viable startup ventures. This program known as NYCRIN I-Corps uses the Lean Startup pedagogy to train academic researchers in hypothesis-driven customer discovery. If you are interested in learning how to decrease the failure rate of science/technology-based startups, read on. All researchers are welcome to apply regardless of their funding source (e.g., NIH, DOD, NSF, DOE, etc.).
Learn technology commercialization and startup best-practices
Concentrated time to focus on commercialization activities
Build relationships with experienced entrepreneurs and investors
Identify commercial potential for your technology
Increase probability of SBIR/STTR grant success and/or raising venture capital
Prepare students and postdocs to be entrepreneurs
The application deadline has been extended to January 31. This seven-week program is free for admitted teams, and will take place in New York City from the week of February 17-April 7, 2014. (Exact dates and location will be confirmed soon!) The program requires a near full-time commitment (30-40 hours /week) for the participating grad student or postdoc and a part-time commitment (10-15 hours /week) for the PI/faculty member, over the course of the seven-weeks.
