Description

This walking tour is designed for educators who are interested in methods to use architecture in their classrooms. As we visit sites in Lower Manhattan the group will model different strategies. We will make our way to the southern tip of the island visiting and learning about landmarks such as: The Woolworth Building, St. Paul's Chapel, The New York Stock Exchange, Trinity Church, and Bowling Green. You will get the chance to experience New York City and learn different strategies to utilize architecture and history in your class. Professional Development certificates will be provided for three hours of professional development.

Though we will be practicing the strategies using architecture in New York City they are designed to work with any architecture from any era or location, in any grade level. Your class does not need to be focused on architecture and you do not need an extensive background in architecture to implement any strategies.

Two sites have bathroom access and there will be a short refreshment/coffee break during the tour. Purchase orders can not be accepted for this program. Participants will need to be able to complete three active hours of walking with multiple sets of stairs.

FAQs

What is the refund policy and bad weather policy?

24 hours are required for cancellation. If you cancel on shorter notice you will be responsible for the price of the ticket. If there is rain in the forecast we will decide if the tour will be moved to the rain date. Poor weather decisions will be made 48 hours in advance, if necessary, and participants will be contacted through email. Cancellations and refunds will be accepted at that time if a participant cannot make the rain date.

Do I have to purchase a ticket beforehand or can I just show up?

You must purchase a ticket beforehand. We want to make sure that our group sizes remain enjoyable, but most importantly they allow us to be able to contact you incase something changes with the tour.

Are the tours wheelchair/stroller accessible?

It depends on the specific tour, but not every site is accessible for wheelchairs or strollers. The ticket page for a specific tour will detail accessibility. You can also contact us directly with any accessibility questions.

Should I bring anything to the tour?

Make sure you wear comfortable shoes. We will be outside walking most of the tour. Make sure you bring a water bottle and cash to buy a drinks or snacks during the break.

What happens if I arrive late to a tour?

If you miss the tour you will not be able to get a refund. We recommend showing up at least 15 minutes for a tour so you do not arrive late. Tours typically stay in the starting are for a brief time before moving along on the route, but you still do not want to be that person and interrupt the tour.

Can I bring a pet on the tour?

Please do not bring pets on any tour. Not all sites or tour guests will be pet friendly. Registered service animals are allowed on tours.

Can I attend a teacher tour if I am not an educator or bring a friend who is not an educator?

Of course. We still go over interesting history and architectural facts, but the theme of the walking tour is best practices for educators so you might not find it as interesting as a more "traditional" tour.
