Yerba mate is an herbal tea enjoyed across South America, especially in Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. It’s naturally energizing like coffee, rich in antioxidants like green tea, and meant to be enjoyed socially.

Do I need to bring anything?

Not necessarily. If you have your own gourd, bombilla, or thermos, bring them along. If not, don’t worry, we always have extra yerba, hot water, and supplies for anyone who needs them.

Are Mateadas free to attend?

Yes, all Yerba Crew Mateadas are free to join. Just RSVP so we know how many people to expect and bring your good vibes.

Where exactly in Sheep Meadow, Central Park will it be?

Keep an eye out for a checkered red and white picnic blanket with some soccer jerseys and yerba mate supplies in the Meadow near the main walkways. We'll post our exact location on Instagram @yerbacrew once we arrive.

Everyone is welcome. Whether it’s your first time trying mate or it’s part of your daily routine, this is a space to connect, learn, and share.

This Mateada is hosted by Yerba Crew (@yerbacrew), Un Mate En Brooklyn (@unmateenbrooklyn), and Altos Mates NYC (@altosmatesnyc), three communities passionate about sharing and celebrating yerba mate culture. We’re simply creating space for people to connect and enjoy a tradition.

Do I need to stay for the full event?

No, not at all. People come and go throughout the two hours. Stay for 20 minutes or hang out the whole time. We usually end a little after 1:00, so feel free to drop in whenever it works for you.

Do I need to reserve a spot for myself?

No, you don’t need to. RSVP’ing just helps us get a better idea of how many people to expect and make sure we have enough yerba and supplies for everyone.

That’s completely fine. We love introducing new people to the tradition and will walk you through how it works when you arrive. If you do want to buy a simple starter kit from us, we'd recommend our Yerba Crew Corrientes Bundle and our Cerro Fitz Roy Thermos. We also have tutorials on YouTube.
