Keynote Presenter: Joshua Siegel, General Partner, Rubicon Ventures

Joshua B. Siegel is the General Partner of Rubicon Venture Capital, a VC fund combined with value added LPs, investing in Later Stage Seed and Series A & B venture capital financing rounds of high potential early stage disruptive technology companies. We operate as a venture capital fund as well as provide a sidecar mechanism for our LPs to invest, on a deal by deal basis, into each startup.
As General Partner - New York, I oversee the day to day activities and operations from evaluating early stage technology companies seeking funding to assisting current portfolio companies with development and interaction with LPs as well as attracting LP capital and development of our network. We leverage our extensive global network of limited partners, accredited angel investors and advisors enabling our portfolio companies access to capital and strategic relationships resulting in partnerships, talent, advisory boards, key customer introductions and leading venture capital firms for follow on funding and ultimately introductions and advice related to buyers for M&A or IPO.
We have co-invested in disruptive companies with notable VCs and angels such as Eric Schmidt, Peter Thiel, Google Ventures, Founders Fund, Sequoia Capital, Menlo Ventures, Battery Ventures, Tomorrow Ventures, Greylock Partners, Formation 8, Y Combinator, SV Angel, Lerer Ventures, HBS Angels, Tech Coast Angels to name a few.
Mr. Siegel is an early stage strategic advisory company for startups and real estate concerns. Active angel investor and board advisor in New York, Joshua has interests in Bespoke Post, Shifthound, TodayTix, Partender, Navdy, Backplane, Dealflicks, and other digital media, consumer product and luxury lifestyle brands. Joshua began his career as an investment with Citicorp and rose to be the Director Of Market Intelligence at Citicorp Debt Capital Markets. Later he moved on to become Manager Eastern European Banking Systems at Citibank and subsequently was with the Overseas Private Investment Corp (OPIC) a division of the US Government that provides international capital risk protection.  Following business school at Georgetown, he worked with multiple startups and tech companies during dot-com 1.0 in New York City. In 2002, Joshua established a successful real-estate business – focusing on Historic Real Estate development through his firm Fantasia Partners. In 2007, after selling the bulk of his real estate holdings close to the top of the market, he became an active angel investor and board advisor in New York with interests in tech, real estate, digital media, consumer products, and luxury lifestyle brands.
Mr. Siegel received his BA degree from Boston University in Economics and Business Administration and received his MBA from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business in Finance and Entrepreneurship in 2000. He also holds a Degree in Gastronomy from the Institute of Culinary Education in New York.  Joshua was born and raised in New York City, attended Horace Mann, and lives with his wife, son and daughter in New York City.


Presenting Companies: is a shopping platform and lifestyle destination for consumers who care about the origins of the items they purchase. Co-founded by Soraya Darabi (Foodspotting; The New York Times) and Maxine Bédat (The Bootstrap Project), Zady is a New York-based e-commerce brand that will provide customers with information about the conscious consumer movement and the option to purchase beautifully-constructed goods on its website, and later, its iPad application. The items available for purchase were created with craftsmanship and artisanship, qualities that have been sacrificed in a world of cheap prices and fast production.

Just as Whole Foods sparked a movement based on the belief that consumers should question where food comes from, Zady is creating a new vision for shopping and is at the forefront of conscious consumerism, which demands transparency for sourced products. Manufacturing transparency is at the heart of Zady; every item sold is from a designer who is conscious of where and how their products are made. Each product is personally vetted by Zady’s founders, using criteria for sustainability, including whether the product is locally-sourced, handmade, uses high-quality raw materials, is environmentally-conscious, or made in the U.S.A. The brands are required to sign a contract verifying the location of the company, the manufacturing city, and the source of the raw materials. However, consumers won’t need to compromise style for a clear conscience. All products sold on Zady are high-quality, timeless in style, and are build to last, withstanding fleeting seasonal trends and the short life-spans of poorly-made “fast fashion” items.

As such, Zady will be the arbiter of authenticity-meets-taste for this generation of conscious consumers.
