Self-Release Techniques by Harkness Center for Dance Injuries
Date: Thursday, June 13, 2019 Time: 4:30 - 6:00 PM Where: Mark Morris Dance Center, 3 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11217 Join us for a 90-minute workshop on techniques for releasing soft tissue using foam rollers, massage balls, and other tools. We will look at anatomical images corresponding to the tissues we are addressing and cover healthy post-release stretching. Dancers and the general public are welcome. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own favorite foam roller (or massage ball or other self-massage tool). Space for this workshop, provided in conjunction with the Harkness Center Healthy Dancer Initiative, is generously provided by the Mark Morris Dance Center.

In this class you will be dancing to the different moods of beyonce. We will go through a collection of hits containing fast medium and slow pace songs by beyonce. We will bring out our inner bey while learning hip fun choreography.

Fitness Lab - Snap, Pop n' Rock Hip Hop Dance Fitness Workshop w/ Deena Clemente - Fri, June 21, 2019, RIOULT Dance Center
SPn'R combines Hip-Hop dance foundation technique drills (Groove, Popping, Rocking, Freestyle, Party Dancing) in combination with the SPnR Body Rock Bootcamp Challenge; Strengthens the body with Calisthenics, Cardio Endurance and Flexibility Combos. These Boogie Down Bronx Nuyo-Ricans bring the streets into the studio by incorporating 'Freestyle is the Key Style' into the combinations and attitude on the dance floor. Hip Hop is an experience; so the music compilations give you the atmosphere of Peace, Unity, Love & Having Fun.

HOW TO TAKE FREE & DISCOUNTED CLASSES

Please see guidelines below on how to sign up for classes during NYC Dance Week.  You may not use Front Desk to sign up for the classes (it's for viewing schedule only) being offered by the participating studios.  It is only for the Fitness Labs.  If the studio requires it (check their special instructions), please sign up with them directly. 

Step 1. Register for Free here on Eventbrite. (also required for taking the free Fitness Labs)

Step 2. Check the OFFERS from participating studios in May 2019.  Pay close attention to their special instructions.

Step 3. Print out the pass you receive in the registration confirmation e-mail from Eventbrite and bring to participating studio.  Depending on the studio, it may be collected but you may print as many times as you want.

Step 4. Have a great time and tag us on your status updates and photos during the week! #NYCDanceWeek2019 @nycdanceweek

 

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
1. All the classes are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Some classes require advanced reservations with the studio.
2. Some classes have restrictions (i.e. New students only).
3. Please read the studios’ special instructions, i.e. RSVP required.

4. Call the studio directly for questions on what to wear, bring, etc. and to confirm the class.  Sometimes we do not get notified when their schedule changes.

Dance enthusiasts are invited to participate in 10 days of free dance, fitness and wellness classes at noted studios in the boroughs of New York City. Check the website for class offers (to be posted in May 2018).

Fitness Labs during NYC Dance Week Festival

During the festival, dance enthusiasts may also participate in a series of unique, ethnic Fitness Labs sponsored by our festival affiliate FitEngine, Inc., a trusted source for inside information on fitness and wellness. FitEngine is providing studio space for approved instructors. Labs range from unique dance/fitness classes to techniques. Schedule will be posted on our website in May 2019.

Performance Event with NYC10 Dance Initiative

Dance Week participants are also invited to watch performances of new dance works at a special showcase by its sister project, NYC10, at Dixon Place on Wednesday, June 19th. 10 selected emerging choreographers /studio instructors and dance companies will be performing for up to 10 mins and the audience and reviewers will provide feedback of their work to them.

Dancer for a Day Program

Dancer for a Day is a NYC Dance Week initiative that provides inner-city youth facing a unique challenge with the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a professional dancer. In its fifth year, Dancer for a Day will choose up to 20 youth, ages 10-15, to participate in a day filled with class taking, a nutritional workshop, lunch, a private performance by and Q&A with a NYC10 dance company.

NYC Dance Week - A Non-Profit Project of Tendu Inc.

NYC Dance Week collaborates with noted studios in New York City to celebrate the joy and diversity of dance with an exhilarating 10-day event of FREE dance, fitness and wellness classes.  The event engages the community and families to experience dance, encouraging them to live active, healthy lifestyles. The organization moves beyond traditional dance forms to teach participants how all dance genres benefit mind, body and spirit. The event will be held on June 13 - 22, 2019 at a variety of venues throughout New York City and serves hundreds. Additionally, throughout the year Dance Week promotes dance studios and companies through their newsletter, projects, dance/fitness events and partnerships. Nearly 40 local studios offering over 100 classes partner with the organization each year to increase public awareness.
