NEW YORK ARTISTS COLLECTIVE:

The New York Artists Collective was started in 2017 by singer-songwriters who played a Nashville-style in-the-round show together where they not only shared their songs, but their inspirations and creative processes as well. They realized that the experience of sharing themselves onstage created an intimate and unique connection between themselves and the audience - one that they wanted to reproduce with other like-minded artists - and hence the NYAC was born. Today, the New York Artists Collective curates artist performances “in the round” while building creative community in New York City.

JESS MCAVOY

Australian-born, Brooklyn-based songwriter and performer Jess McAvoy has spent over two decades mining the human condition for her prolific output of music and lyrics. A stunning vocalist and commanding live performer, McAvoy combines blues, pop, rock and her astute lyricism to create a powerful, hook laden examination of that which fuels us all – the desire for connection.

CARLI NAFF

Carli & The Dark is the project of Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Carli Naff. Born in Phoenix, AZ, Carli studied acting before moving to New York.  While auditioning for theatre and television, she learned how to play guitar and wrote her first few songs. At the time, Naff had been struggling with a vocal injury. A doctor told her that the strain was not from singing, but from poor technique while speaking. Her debut EP, Horrible Talker was written while healing this vocal injury, choosing to leave acting behind, and simultaneously uncovering her true artistic “voice.”  The album is meant to express the pain one feels when muting themselves. No Depression Music Journal says: “(She) stopped us dead in our tracks. One of the best vocalists we’ve heard this year.” Her emotionally expressive voice, when paired with her intimate story-telling, has drawn comparisons to artists like Angel Olsen and Mitski. Naff says she is inspired by many different artists including Jeff Buckley and Big Thief.

THOMPSON NEWKIRK

Melodic poppy hooks over rock rhythms, Thompson puts on paper his views about how much more similar we all are in our human nature.  His focus derives from all the differences that oppose us.  His poetic however simple lyrics touched by the veracity of the feelings that are inside all of us... pride, insecurity, reflection on the past and of course love.  Looking toward the future, Newkirk aspires to create a cult around authenticity.
