NEW YORK ARTISTS COLLECTIVE:

The New York Artists Collective was started in 2017 by singer-songwriters who played a Nashville-style in-the-round show together where they not only shared their songs, but their inspirations and creative processes as well. They realized that the experience of sharing themselves onstage created an intimate and unique connection between themselves and the audience - one that they wanted to reproduce with other like-minded artists - and hence the NYAC was born. Today, the New York Artists Collective curates artist performances “in the round” while building creative community in New York City.

Common Jack:

Folk-rock singer John Gardner formed Common Jack during a two-year world tour with the actor-musician Broadway show, Once. Based on the indie film of the same name starring Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova, Gardner played Once to sold out houses across America, Canada, & Japan while gigging with his own music in his free time.

He had always wanted to pursue music but the realities of life made the dream seem worlds away. But when fate placed him in conversation with Glen Hansard at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, his hang ups began to dissolve. Responding to Gardner’s own doubts, Hansard spoke with a lilting wisdom, “It’s frightening to lift our voice, but it’s always worth the effort.”

The first ten months saw two full-length albums, ‘Bowl, Holland’ & ‘Strange New State’, both of which were praised for Gardner’s songwriting. “his voice takes us in quite a poetic world, in a very original musical dimension, he makes us fly.” (Michel Penard, ISA Radio) The Huffington Post echoed the sentiment, calling Common Jack “Exceptional Pop/Americana”.

Now comes CJ’s new EP ‘Canyons in the Dark’, which Atwood Magazine observed has “a sense of magic” compared to Gardner’s previous work. Steeped in folk tradition & draped in pop textures, ‘Canyons in the Dark’ is a startlingly open collection, a free-wheeling bit of introspection about protecting the soft spot in your heart, looking out for yourself & those around you.

FRANK BELL:

Originally a classically-trained cellist, Frank Bell later expanded his instrumental arsenal as a way to further express himself as an artist. As an outlet, Frank began posting videos of his songs on YouTube, which brought him international attention and 800,000 video views (in four days) after being featured on their homepage. Shortly after, he flew to Canada to record his debut EP ‘On Passion and Reason’, a folky, neo-soul acoustic rock album which would later be released independently worldwide with famed Producer Bill Bell (Tom Cochrane, Jason Mraz, and more).

In recent years, Frank turned his focus inwards, stripping down his sound and rediscovering the foundation of his passion: connecting with people through song. Spending extended periods of time in NYC, Boston, and at sea, Frank has been hard at work listening, building relationships, and refining his voice to speak to an increasingly diverse and disparate community. Always a heartfelt, insightful lyricist, his next big challenge is finding the words to match the world we live in today.

CASSIDY ANDREWS

Cassidy Andrews picked up a guitar when a woman broke her heart for the first time at age 13. She has gone on connect with audiences about all things melancholy, attempting to compensate for sad songs with jokes and charm. After playing venues varying from zoos to colleges, bars to music halls, cafes to living rooms, there's a comfort the audience finds in the ease of her performances. Her EP “Through the Dark”, recorded and released in Brooklyn, NY, haunts melodically and tells the truth lyrically. “Love is only as love does, and not as it seems/Oh, if all the dreams could be, then they would not be dreams.” Known to sit down to the piano for an emotional ballad, duet with a fiddle player for a folky, upbeat song about infidelity, or share a brand new song at an intimate New York City music hall, Andrews isn’t one to shy away from a story. She brings people back to their love for old-fashioned singer/songwriters, with a modern twist. Her new singles “What Was Wrong” and “Dreams” came out this year and are available everywhere. She is currently working to record a full album by spring of 2020.
