WHERE: Watson Homestead Retreat Center -- 9620 Dry Run Rd. Painted Post, NY 14870

WHO: Sponsored by the Consortium for Humanitarian Service and Education and the Elmira College Nursing Department for students, University at Albany College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity, community members, and local and state responders.

WHAT: Three day disaster response field training exercise focused on:

  • Leadership and Followership
  • Teamwork and Confidence Building
  • Incident Command System
  • Disaster Response Operations
  • Red Cross Case Management
  • Sheltering Experience

WHEN: August 11-13, 2017 (Lodging available on August 10th for out of town participants). Staff are required to arrive by 6:00 PM August 10 for staff training.

WHY: This disaster response exercise challenges students to overcome their fears and hone their skills as humanitarian workers. Students work together in teams where they rotate leadership positions and are challenged with mass casualty situations, wilderness search and rescue, and holistic care of victims of disasters.

COST: $175 fee for participants plus SUNY tuition for 3 credits (approx $875) plus transportation.
