Organizer Northeastern Woodworkers Association

Organizer of NWA Showcase 2022

The NWA is a nonprofit membership organization, open without restriction to all who enjoy working wood; and want to get better at it. Formed in New York State's Capital District in 1991 for amateur and professional woodworkers of all ages, the NWA helps its members learn from each other and from outside experts, in a variety of ways. The association's aim is to provide a common meeting ground for lovers of woodworking who want to know more about wood and the techniques for forming it.

Monthly meetings provide both structured presentations and opportunities for informal interaction among members. Each meeting features a talk by a member or guest speaker on a topic of general interest including tools and techniques, furniture design, finishing, shop jigs and fixtures, hand tool design and use, woods and materials, joinery methods, tips and projects.

In addition to the formal presentation, each regular meeting includes a Show and Tell period and a coffee break time to get acquainted and a special interest presentation by a member or guest speaker/presenter. Meetings are held on the second Thursday evening in most months beginning at 7:00 p.m. at a Capital District location announced in Woodworker's News, the association's newsletter for members. One and two-day workshops and classes are held separately from regular meetings at our Herm Finkbeiner Learning Center in Albany.
