Nuts + Bolts: Building Your Program's Capacity

Do you have policies and processes that guide your work? What plans and systems would improve your capacity and make your work more efficient and effective? How do you evaluate your organization’s risk?

In this workshop, you will learn how to develop and implement structured and standardized processes to support your organization and residency program(s). This workshop will center ACA’s Five Pillars of a Healthy Residency Framework Rubric* developed by Lisa Funderburke Hoffman.

Learning Objectives:

  • Map your current practices, process and policies
  • Learn more effective and sustainable ways to construct systems and policies
  • Evaluate your organization’s risk
  • Understand basic tenets of business continuity

*Five Pillars of a Healthy Residency Framework Rubric developed by the Artist Communities Alliance design team: Lisa Funderburke Hoffman, Executive Director; Edwige Charlot, Director of Community Learning; and Kate Strater Hogan; with generous support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The Strengthening Your Equitable Capacity workshop series will help artist residency staff and leadership assess and strengthen all elements of their residency program, with a focus on Identity, Program Design, Stewardship, Resource Development, and Operational Excellence, the key areas outlined in ACA’s Five Pillars of a Healthy Residency Framework Rubric*, developed by Lisa Funderburke Hoffman.

This series will help you:

  • Sustain artist-centered experiences
  • Refine welcome and onboarding processes for artists
  • Manage your organization’s operations
  • Develop an equitable engagement strategy with your stakeholders and audiences

REGISTRATION + TERMS

Space for this session is limited. Registration closes on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 8pm EST (unless tickets sell out sooner). Register early.

ACA-member rates are $185 per session, $600 for the full series, plus Eventbrite fees. Join or renew your membership in order to receive the discounted rate.

Non-member rates are $260 per session; $900 for the full series, plus Eventbrite fees.

Full series rates are only available until Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 8pm EST (unless tickets sell out sooner).

FLEXIBLE RATES

Flexible rates available to organizations that are Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) led and founded; or led and founded by a person with disabilities. For eligibility these organizations also maintain a budget of $500,000 or less. If you would like further information on these rates, please email registration@artistcommunities.org with:

REFUND POLICY

50% refund issued if canceling up to 3 weeks in advance of each workshop. No refund issued if canceling within 3 weeks of the workshop. Alternatively, you may instead transfer your paid registration to another member of your organization. Please email us at registration@artistcommunities.org to update your registration. The date for the 50% refund cut-off for this workshop is May 25, 2022.

FAQ

What can I expect from this workshop?

Attendees can expect a mix of interactive exercises and as nuts-and-bolts information from our guest facilitators, as well as time in smaller group breakouts for discussion and networking. You will receive a participant packet the week of your session that outlines resources and prompts. We also welcome questions ahead of the session, sent to registration@artistcommunities.org.

Can I share my registration with my colleagues?

No; one registration equals one virtual seat. We will remove participants from the session who do not follow this policy.

I would like to split the series registration among different staff. Can we do that?

Yes; you may elect to send one staff person from your organization or program to each workshop. You must let ACA staff know who will be attending at least 7 business days in advance of the session. As with all workshops, one registration is meant for one virtual seat. Please send the following to programs@artistcommunities.org:

  3. Email address
  4. Workshop title

How do I know if I am a current member of ACA?

If you are not sure of your organization’s status or whether your membership is current - drop us a line! Please write to programs@artistcommunities.org to confirm.

Can I pay by check?

Because registration tracking and event links are processed through Eventbrite, attendees must register through this portal. Eventbrite accepts credit card payments as well as PayPal. If you need to pay through your organization’s bank account, check to see whether it is linked to PayPal.

I need an accessibility accommodation that is not listed.

ACA is committed to providing full access to all. All workshops will be ASL interpreted and captioned and we are happy to engage other services as needed. Please send accessibility inquiries and requests to registration@artistcommunities.org by June 8, 2022.

Something came up and I can no longer attend my session. What should I do?

If you are not able to make your session for any reason, you may transfer your registration to a colleague or board member at your organization. Please let us know so we can update your registration: email registration@artistcommunities.org.

Alternatively we are able to offer a 50% refund up to three weeks out from each session if you are not able to transfer your registration to an organizational colleague.
