Sentara Heart & Vascular is proud to host this Nutrition as Medicine event. With widespread chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, Sentara recognizes that many of these diseases can often be linked to our diets.

Through this event, we are sharing insights to help you take control of your life through nutrition. The whole food, plant-based lifestyle can help us to avoid and even reverse many chronic diseases, and features simple guidelines grounded in science. On November 13, 2018, we have invited some of the most prestigious and influential medical professionals in the world to share this science with you.

These medical professionals include:

Dr. Dean Ornish

Dr. Ornish, a world-renowned physician, is the founder of the Ornish Medicine Program for Reversing Heart Disease, a program through which Sentara successfully treats many of its heart disease patients. Dr. Ornish is also the president and founder of the nonprofit Preventive Medicine Research Institute (PMRI) and a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California. Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr.

Dr. Esselstyn is a prominent American physician, the author of Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, and the Director of the Cardiovascular Prevention and Reversal Program at The Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute. Dr. Neal Barnard

Dr. Barnard is the author of 18 best-selling books on nutrition. He is the Associate Professor of Medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences and founding president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). Dr. T. Colin Campbell

Dr. Campbell is a world-famous biochemist who specializes in the effect of nutrition on health. He is the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University and his legacy, The China Project, is deemed to be the most comprehensive study of health and nutrition ever conducted. Dr. Campbell has been featured in the documentaries Forks Over Knives, Eating You Alive, and Food Matters.

Dr. William Li

Dr. Li is an international expert in health and disease-reversal. His work has impacted more than 23 million people across 94 countries. Dr. Li has appeared on The Dr. Oz Show, Martha Stewart Live, CNN, and MSNBC, and he is recognized by The New York Times as “one of the top 10 to watch for in the coming decade with the potential to change the world”.
