Event description

Description

Nutmeg and Cocoa is a fictional story based around Maurice Bishop and the U.S. Invasion of Grenada in 1983. The days and months leading up to the invasion were turbulent and un-settling for the small Caribbean nation of Grenada. The collapse of Maurice Bishop and the PRG/Jewel Movement caused a “split” Grenada, this eventually lead to Bishop being jailed and ultimately being executed. Out of this turmoil grew an innocent and loving relationship.

2 ACT 1 SCENE 1 (It is October 1983, Grenada, the home of Zipporah LaFrance 22. Zipporah lives with her mother Pamela Grant in the city of St. George’s, the capital of Grenada. Zipporah LaFrance is a student at the University of South Grenada studying Biology. Zipporah is getting ready to meet her study partner Gerald Jacobs who is an American studying Sociology abroad. A genuine friendship has developed between Zipporah and Gerald in which there are romantic undertones. They like each other very much, but the fact that he is an American scares her, in addition to the fact that she is Grenadian scares him. The United States has Grenada under close watch due to its relationship with Cuba. This has caused American resentment. Her brother Angelus LaFrance is the executive chef to the Prime Minister Maurice Bishop. Her brother harbors American resentment due to a failed relationship with the mother of his daughter who is an American. The fact that Zipporah has a close relationship with an American rubs her brother the wrong way.)
