WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Nurses who are preparing for the Nursing Informatics board certification exam and nurses who are new to Nursing Informatics and would like to increase their knowledge in this specialty area.

Goal and Objectives for the Nursing Informatics Certification Review:
The goal of the Informatics Intensive CE Series is to provide healthcare providers with information on nursing informatics and a review for those preparing to sit for the NI national exam.  Upon completion of this series, attendees will be able to do the following:

·         Identify theories and models which have application to healthcare informatics.

·         Discuss the stages of system life cycle

·         Identify key resources for system design

·         Name educational concerns during implementation

·         Discuss collaborative tools, standards, and types of telecommunication technologies.

·         Discuss the scope and standards of nursing informatics practice.


Cost of the 6-week program: $399 (discounted group rate of 3 or more: $370)

Early Bird Rate: $375 (available until March 3, 2014)


Cancellation and Refund Policy:

Phone cancellations must be confirmed in writing. Cancellations received four weeks prior to the start date of the series will receive a full refund of the registration fee. Cancellations received after four weeks and up to seven days prior to the start of the series will be assessed a $50 processing fee. Cancellations received seven days prior or “no shows” will not receive a refund. In the event that the program is cancelled, a full refund will be issued.

Sarah E. Fletcher, RN, BSN, BC-IN, began her career in technology, obtaining a degree in computer science from the University of South Dakota.  She spent over 10 years providing technical support and training at the University of South Dakota Help Desk, Gateway, Inc., and as a consultant. In 2004, Ms. Fletcher returned to school to obtain an Associate's degree in nursing from the University of South Dakota.  In 2006, she began working for Georgetown University Hospital's Medical Intensive Care Unit as a new graduate nurse. As Georgetown began its transition to electronic documentation in 2008, Ms. Fletcher transitioned to the Nursing Informatics Department where she supported the design, testing, training, and implementation for the Hospital's new electronic medical record.  In 2010, she became the Nursing Informatics Educator for Georgetown. 

Susan Newbold, RN-BC, PhD, FAAN, FHIMSS,
 is a pioneer in nursing informatics (NI) known for her lifetime of exceptional leadership.  Dr. Newbold is the Director of the Nursing Informatics Boot Camp and a healthcare informatics consultant, Franklin, TN. Susan is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and the Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS). Her PhD is in Nursing Informatics from the University of Maryland School of Nursing, Baltimore, MD. Dr. Newbold founded CARING (now ANIA-CARING), a national nursing informatics organization advancing the delivery of quality healthcare through education and networking. Susan is a prolific author and speaker, having co-edited five books and written numerous articles and book chapters. Susan was a keynote speaker in the first NI conferences held in Taiwan and Singapore and has consulted in informatics in the US, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Slovenia and Taiwan. She is the US liaison between the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and the International Medical Informatics Association. She is Chair, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) Information Technology Task Force and won the STTI International Technology Award for Knowledge Advancement. Susan was awarded an Excellence in Teaching Award from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and Nurse Educator of the Year by the Maryland Nurses Association. In 2010 she won the HIT MEN-HIT WOMEN award for improving patient care through health information technology.

Sarah Tupper, RN-BC, MS, LHIT-HP, CPHIMS, earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 1991 and entered into her first formal “informatics” position as an Associate Installation Coordinator with Andersen Consulting (Accenture) in 1993. Sarah formalized her experience and knowledge of Health Informatics by obtaining a Master of Science in Nursing/Health Systems Administration with a Minor in Health Informatics and she studied Informatics as part of the International Partnership for Health Informatics Education (IPHIE) in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Sarah’s graduate work was centered on the role, credentials, salary, and value to the organization of the Nurse Informaticist, using the ANA Scope & Standards of Nursing Informatics Practice as a guide to develop her research questionnaire. She has had the opportunity to study and present informatics topics internationally as well as locally. Sarah is currently board-certified in Nursing Informatics through ANCC. She has served as System Director of Nursing Informatics in a large, multi-facility hospital system where she started and co-led a Health Informatics department. Sarah has served on the Competencies Workgroup of the TIGER Initiative (Phase I) and currently serves as Board Member and Secretary/Data Administrator of the Minnesota Nursing Informatics Group (MINING).  Sarah currently serves as a part-time HIT Consultant with REACH in helping clients to meet Meaningful Use. The other half of her time is spent completing coursework for the Leadership in Health IT certificate program at the University of MN. Her diverse clinical nursing background includes ICU, CCU, Public Health, and most recently Labor & Delivery nursing..
