"Nurseries of National Wealth": Carpenters' Hall & the First Bank
Event Information
About this Event
Alexander Hamilton, America's first Secretary of the Treasury and the designer of our early banking system, called banks "nurseries of national wealth" because of the important role he knew they could play in fueling economic growth. Hamilton founded the First Bank of the United States, which was housed at Carpenters' Hall in the early 1790s, before its stunning building on 3rd Street was completed.
Join us for a fascinating virtual discussion of Carpenters' Hall's connection to the early history of American banking and learn about the exciting plans for the First Bank building.
This event is presented by The Carpenters' Company of the City and County of Philadelphia in partnership with Independence National Historical Park and Independence Historical Trust. Tickets are free for members of The Carpenters' Company and the Friends of Carpenters' Hall and for members of Independence Historical Trust. General admission is $5.
