Nuptials for the Dead
Description
Get in the mood for Day of the Dead with a Dreampunk rendition of German romantic art songs from the 19th century (lieder) sung sung by professional Denver-area singers and accompanied by dreamlike theatrical and dance interpretations. Focus on the songs of Fanny Mendelsson and Clara Schumann. One of the recurring motifs in the vignettes is the 19th century woman choosing between love, society, her children, and her art/career — composing. The show transitions from courtship, romance, marriage, betrayal, and loss, to abandonment and death. Nuptials for the Dead is the first show in our Dreampunk season of sexy, smart, and surreal spectacle. Show runs for 80-90 minutes without intermission. Show designed by Mary Lin. Music direction by Andrew Adams.
