Often times people use drugs and alcohol to numb the pain of the abuse and trauma they have suffered. Research indicates that many individuals presenting for treatment for a substance use disorder also have a history of trauma. It is important to treat the whole person and recognize the underlying issues: anger, shame, low self-esteem, fear, and guilt as a result of being a victim of abuse or trauma.

Upon attending this 3 hour workshop participants will be able to :

 Understand the connection between addiction, abuse, and trauma

 Utilize strategies and interventions given in order to help clients identify unhealthy coping skills, understand their interpersonal struggles and to transcend those self-defeating behaviors Examine case studies and resources in an effort to support a holistic view of healing from trauma and abuse
