Event description

Description

University of Miami President Julio Frenk and Dean of Libraries Charles Eckman cordially invite you to Nuestra Herencia: Honoring The Founding Women of the Cuban Heritage Collection.

The strength and prestige that the Cuban Heritage Collection is renowned for is due to the hard work, passion, and pioneering spirit of five Cuban women who, beginning in the 1960s, envisioned the Otto G. Richter Library as the destination, resource, and forum for scholarly work on Cuba and its diaspora.

Throughout their careers at the University of Miami, Rosita Abella, Esperanza Bravo de Varona, Gladys Gómez-Rossié, Ana Rosa Nuñez, and Lesbia Orta Varona built the foundation for what is now the largest repository of materials on Cuba outside of the island, spanning from the colonial period to the present, and the most comprehensive and inclusive collection of resources about the global Cuban diaspora.

We are proud to honor their legacy, continue their work, and celebrate them, along with the countless leaders and scholars who stand on their shoulders, cultivating a new era of growth, learning, and outreach.

Kindly RSVP by Monday, February 18.

For questions about the event, please contact the Cuban Heritage Collection at 305-284-4008.

Valet parking will be available. Metered parking is also available at all lots on the Coral Gables campus.
