NSAAC Meeting December 5, - An Overview of Historical Observatories
Overview
This month's meeting will take place on December 5th at 7:30 at 10 Elm Street, Boxford. The business meeting will come first, followed by a presentation by John Adler on Historical Observatories.
John - the speaker for our October meeting - is an avid chronicler of the history of astronomical observatories, collecting images and postcards to share with the public. John is the administrator of a Facebook page dedicated to this topic. You can visit it here https://www.facebook.com/groups/293562454893273/
John Adler is a retired engineer and campground owner that started astrophotography when he and his wife Cathy retired and toured the country in their RV for 3 years beginning in 2016. In the fall of 2018 and 2019 they volunteered with the National Park Service at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area at Page, Arizona for several months. While there Cathy worked in the Visitor Center and John assisted with Star Parties and solar viewing. They now run the Valley Vista Getaway, an astronomical retreat in southwest New Mexico.
Both before and after the meeting we will hold an astronomical swap shop where you can sell, buy or trade any astro-gear, books and the like.
And be sure to mark your calendars for the upcoming meeting of January 2nd and February 6th.
