Event description

Description

Learn about the plants of the South Platte River corridor and the nearby habitats at the Audubon Nature Center at Chatfield. The class will introduce you to many of the native trees, shrubs, flowers, and grasses found at the southern end of Chatfield State Park. Botanical characteristics, ecological relationships, landscaping possibilities, edible & medicinal uses, and the threats from non-native species will all be explored.

Prerequisite: Basic Botany Class is recommended for those who would like to refresh their botanical knowledge and is required for those who have minimal background in botany. Contact lpembert@jeffco.us for questions.

Native Plant Master: All participants who pass three NPM courses will receive a Colorado Flora Certificate. For accepted volunteers, this course counts toward certification as a Native Plant Master. To learn more, click here. To reduce overlap, take courses in different months and/or lifezones.

Lifezone: lowland riparian & mixed plains/foothills life zones
