Two day Intensive: Feb 3-4 in Portland Metro Area

The course also highlights an integration of spiritual leadership and how God shapes a leader over a lifetime for unique purposes. Development of a leader's life takes place: (1) In the context of God's sovereign formative hand, (2) in the context of time and (3) in context of a leader's response to God's formation. The student be able to describe the Spirit work in their life now and in the new phases of ministry. Through guest lectures, reading, and online discussion, students will be introduced to J. Robert Clinton's leadership emergence theory and encouraged to apply it to their own churches/communities.

Course Learning Outcomes

As a result of taking this course, students will:


  • Learn to use Robert Clinton’s Leadership Emergence Theory (LET) to locate their personal and ministerial development through reading, online discussion, coaching, peer mentoring and Face to Face sessions.

  • Create a Personal Calling Statement of their lives and ministries as informed by LET and through discussions with course instructor, coaches, and peer mentors.

  • Identify and incorporate mentoring relationships in the formation and living out of the personal calling statement through online discussions.

  • Construct a practical and theoretical foundation for continued personal and professional development.

  • Explore and adapt Clinton's “5 Characteristics of Finishing Well” into their Personal Calling Statement and Professional Development Plan.
