Topic: OSINT Today on Yesterday’s Hardware
Many people use online auction houses as a means of purchasing enterprise grade technology for cheaper prices, more times than not the gear that’s being sold is used and coming from somebody with a much bigger budget than themselves. How does that gear get to these websites? What happens when a corporation uses a recycling company to rid themselves of parts their infrastructure? This talk takes a bit of an investigative approach into what happened when I purchased some hardware through one of these websites and things got far more interesting than I’d ever expected. Using the details haphazardly included by the seller and presumably the recycling facility we will quickly run through how somebody of a less discerning background may exploit their new purchases to glean more information about companies both small and large. We will also take an investigative look into other pitfalls and mistakes made by gray market sellers hawking hardware that the sun has not entirely set on.
