Event description

Description

Novel Writing For Teenagers ClassDuring I Love to Read Month in Feb. 2019, there will be a unique opportunity for teenagers who have dreamed of one day becoming published authors. On Sat., and Sun., Feb. 23 and 24, 2019, Sigma's Bookshelf is offering the weeekend workshop, "Novel Writing for Teenagers.” The class will be held at the Hopkins Center for the Arts, located at 1111 Main Street, Hopkins, MN 55343.

Sigma's Bookshelf (www.sigmasbookshelf.com) is believed to be the first and only book publishing company that exclusively publishes the work of teenage authors (ages 13 - 19) at no cost to them, and also pays royalties. Since the company's founding in 2016, more than 60 manuscripts have been submitted and just 12 accepted for publication. Those turned down have shared common issues: lack of a storyline that moves, undeveloped characters, bad grammar, etc.

This class is Sigma’s Bookshelf’s way of helping teens improve their novel writing skills, and helping them become published authors at a young age.

The Sat., Feb. 23 class will be held from 11 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. There will be 1/2-hour break for lunch. Students will need to bring a bagged lunch. Water bottles will be provided.

Material covered will include...
* Developing your story idea.
* Character development.
* Story outlining.
* Getting started on your manuscript.

The Sun., Feb. 24 class will be held from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Again, water bottles will be provided.

Material covered will include:
* Editing
* Proofreading
* Publishing options

Both days will split their time between lecture and hands-on writing exercises. Students with story ideas already in the works will get help working on their pending books. Those still working on story ideas will be provided with starter stories that will help get their creative juices flowing.

Cost for the 2-day workshop is just $50. Scholarships are available for those unable to pay. Send an email to editors@sigmasbookshelf.com if you wish to apply for a scholarship, or have any questions about the class.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
