FAQs:

What day(s) and hour(s) will NoVa Mini Maker Faire be open to the public?

The Faire will be open Sunday, March 19th (2017) from 11AM to 5PM.

Where can I park?

Only handicapped parking is allowed at the school.  See 'Transportation' below for details about parking and the free shuttle.

Where is the handicap parking located?

Directly across from the side doors on both east and west entrances of South Lakes High School.

Transportation:

Free parking is available at the Wiehle-Reston East Metro station in the County garage. (Be aware that there are two garages at the Metro - the actual WMATA/Metro Garage is free on the weekends. The other garage, operated by Comstock, is not free. How can you tell? If you need to take a ticket to enter, you have the wrong garage.)

Free regular (and fast!) shuttle bus service will be provided from the South side of the Metro station to Langston Hughes Middle School and South Lakes High School. Only handicapped parking is available at the schools. A bike valet will be available at the event or you can walk (about 1.5 miles on mostly sidewalks/paths)

Will you have bike parking?

Free and on-site bike valet services will be provided.

Can I bring my dog?

Well-behaved service animals only, please.

Can I volunteer at the Mini Maker Faire?

YES. Click Here to Volunteer Volunteers get free admission.

What if it rains?

The show will go on regardless of the weather!  Bring rain gear to keep you dry when walking outdoors. Fortunately, we will have many indoor exhibits to keep the family dry.

What can I expect?

To have a fantastic time! You'll be surprised and intrigued with every corner that you turn.

Rain or Shine. No Refunds/Exchanges. Tickets cannot be replaced.

About the NoVa Mini Maker Faire

Now in its fourth year, the NoVa Mini Maker Faire is the community-scale version of the big Maker Faires in Detroit, San Francisco, and New York City.  Inexpensive to attend, free to exhibitors, it features extraordinary projects by some of the most creative and inventive minds in our community.  The faire is organized by a community of makers around Nova Labs, the premier makerspace in the area.

About Maker Faire:

Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.

Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.

The original Maker Faire event was held in San Mateo, CA and in 2015 celebrated its tenth annual show with some 800 makers and 110,000 people in attendance. World Maker Faire New York, the other flagshipevent, has grown in five years to 500+ makers and 70,000 attendees. Detroit, Kansas City, Newcastle (UK), and Tokyo are the home of “featured” Maker Faires (200+ makers), and community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires are now being produced around the United States and the world—including right here in NoVa.

About MAKE Magazine:

MAKE is the first magazine devoted entirely to Do-It-Yourself (DIY) technology projects. MAKE unites, inspires, informs, and entertains a growing community of resourceful people who undertake amazing projects in their backyards, basements, and garages. MAKE celebrates your right to tweak, hack, and bend any technology to your will. Subscribe here.

Besides the magazine and the faire, MAKE is:

  • a vital online stream of news and projects, blog.makezine.com;
  • a retail outlet for kits and books, the Maker Shed;
  • a steady stream of fun and instruction via our YouTube channel;
  • Make: Projects, a library of projects with step-by-step instructions
  • a book publishing imprint with best-in-category titles on introductions to electronics, Raspberry Pi, Arduino and more.
