Description

The Nova Cubs Can Code Award explores the world of coding or computer programming. Once you know how to code, you can teach a computer to perform programs that help you in many ways.

We will be completing Requirements #3, #4, #5, and #6 together at CodeNinja.




In order to completely finish any NOVA Award, Requirement 1 requires one hour for Cubs of watching or reading about your STEM topic before they come to class.

Students who are Scouts must come in Class A Field uniform with (a) pencil/pen (writing), (b) water bottle, (c) snack, and (d) either a notebook or Cub Can Code Worksheet.




FOR WHOM:

Open to Cub Scout registered with ANY Council of the Boy Scouts of America, who are (a) Wolf - Webelos in Grades 2 - 5 for the 2019-2020 school year.




HOW TO RSVP/SIGNUP:

1) SignUp SCOUT using SCOUT FIRST-NAME-and-LAST-NAME with their PARENTS EMAIL ADDRESS. One Scout at a time. Do NOT use adult name with adult email address during Sign Up ptocess.

2) Fill Out ClassRoster - the form is sent out via the Eventbrite email platform to the email address you use to sign up on Eventbrite.



NOTES - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

1) Parking and travel arrangements from wherever you are and CodeNinja in Colkege Station is your responsibility.

2) Requirements #1 must be completed by June 29, 2019.

Cub Scouts Can Code Req #1: Choose A or B or C and complete ALL the requirements as listed.

    1. Choose A or B or C and complete ALL requirements.
      1. Watch an episode or episodes (not less than one hour total) of science-related shows or documentaries that involve computers, programming, and careers that involve computers. Then do the following:
        1. Make a list of at least two questions or ideas from each show.
        2. Discuss two of the questions or ideas with your counselor.
      2. Read (not less than one hour total) about computers, coding, and careers that involve computers. Then do the following:
        1. Make a list of at least two questions or ideas from each article.
        2. Discuss two of the questions or ideas with your counselor.
      3. Do a combination of reading and watching (not less than one hour total). Then do the following:
        1. Make a list of at least two questions or ideas from each article or show.
