Northfield CoderDojo at Arcadia
What is CoderDojo?
A CoderDojo is a local chapter of an international organization of tech meetup groups; they bring together people ages 6 to 18 who want to learn about technology and mentors who volunteer to work with them!
It's more exploration than class - we'll show you some basics and can point you toward tutorials, but the main event is young coders taking the wheel and discovering for themselves. Mentors are there to encourage, offer suggestions and challenges, and bounce ideas around with you! This month, because it's Computer Science Education Week, our focus is on trying something new, whether that's because you're a first-time coder, or because you're an old pro trying a new language. We'll have a wide array of Hour of Code exploration options, as well as some off-screen activities planned for coders who think two hours sounds like a long time!
CoderDojo welcomes coders between the ages of 8 and 18, and junior coders (ages 6 and 7) who work in tandem with a parent or guardian. Adults - if someone you're bringing is under 13, we need you to remain onsite at Arcadia for the duration of the event (although whether you stay next to your coder or in another room is for you two to decide). We appreciate your cooperation!
What to bring:
- A laptop, if you have access to one (if not, we've got you covered)
- Creativity, excitement, and readiness to try new things!
Location & Parking
Arcadia is located just off of Highway 3, behind Perkins; it can be tricky to find the first time. Parking lots are located on both sides of the school. Follow the crowd to enter through the back door and join us in the Great Room!
