One California Forestry: The Professional’s Role

The Northern and Southern California Societies will again be jointly hosting their winter meeting. The Executive Committees of the two Societies will be meeting on Friday, January 24, 2014 at the UC Berkeley Faculty Club in the O’Neill Room. The general meeting will be held at the Clark Kerr Campus of UC Berkeley, just south of the main campus.

The theme of this year’s meeting will be, “One California Forestry,” and will focus on the diverse array of responsibilities that foresters and allied natural resource professionals have throughout state. We’ll highlight their role in urban forestry, restoration, urban planning, wildfire management, timber production, appraisal, investment analysis, biodiversity management and conservation planning.

We’ll be holding the meeting in Berkeley this year, in recognition of the centennial anniversary of the start of Cal’s forestry program in 1914. The last session of the meeting is entitled, “A Century of Forestry Education in California,” and will have leaders from the three major university forestry programs in the state in attendance.
