The California Health Professional Student Alliance’s (CaHPSA) Lobbying Activities will be structured differently than they have been in previous years. Since the Single Payer movement in the state of California does not have a single payer bill to lobby for, we see this as a unique opportunity to create an advocacy strategy that educates students across the state, while simultaneously contributing to the strategic plan to reach single payer in California put forth by the other members of the AllCare Alliance. CaHPSA’s strategy is to lobby local city and county governments and school districts to pass a resolution that will urge Sacramento to pass state legislation for single payer in the next session.

(Jan 25): Training Day features collaboration between health professional student leaders, physicians, public officials and health policy experts. Our goal is for students to learn about single-payer health care and prepare an effective meeting with their legislators. We will also have a huge rally on this day in support for universal healthcare.
Day 2 (Jan 27): Day of Action is the actual Lobby Day. We are scheduling visits in SF county, Alameda County, and Sacramento county to allow students to target elected officials in their home districts. Depending on where students reside, we will help them schedule visits all over the state of California.
