Anyone in the 12 step community (AA, AL-ANON, & others, who are seeking to begin or renew their 4th step process, with a fresh new understanding and tools to enhance personal recovery
12 step members and sponsors, and support groups
NVC practitioners, who are curious to learn how the NVC process can be enhanced by the 4th step process (12 step program)
Health care professionals and Healing Arts practitioners, who wish to learn new skills – using NVC model & 12 step program
Anyone interesting in transforming blame, shame, guilt, into “life serving” understanding and new action
Anyone interested in learning to improve communication, deep listening skills, and connection with others in relationships
You will Learn:
How the Nonviolent Communication (NVC) model framework fosters non-judgment
How we all have the same “universal needs" yet different strategies to get them met - some helpful, others harmful, which often leads to Shame & Guilt
How the NVC model can transform personal Shame & Guilt into “life serving” understanding and motivation to engage in or renew your 4th step process
How to transition from Stinking Thinking- a phrase often heard in 12 step discussion to describe harmful judgmental thinking, to understanding the underlying feelings and needs…more helpful
How to integrate the NVC non-judgmental model into the 4th step process…using 4th step worksheets (personal work & small group sharing)
How to create a Personal Action Plan to further integrate the NVC model into your 4th step (and 10th step) process
How to help others to use the NVC model to move through the 4th step process
About the Facilitators:
Tom Carlisi, M.A
Tom Carlisi is a founding member of Compassionate Communication Center of Ohio (CCCO). He has conducted training workshops in central Ohio for over 35 years. He is also a former Board member of OSU Addiction Studies Institute. Tom also served as a Family Services Director - Talbot Hall, St. Anthony Hospital (now OSU Hospitals East).
Colleen Tootell, LISW-S
Colleen Tootell is an independent social worker in private practice. She has 39 years counseling experience, including with people having co-occurring mental health and addiction problems. Her special interest is in addressing trauma through NVC/Compassionate Communication.
