Recruiting and managing nonprofit board members is an ongoing process. For new nonprofits as well as existing organizations, the process can be challenging. For new board members it can be down right scary, frustrating and/or dissappointing.

Assumptions are made by both the nonprofit and the new board member. This webinar is designed to ensure your nonprofit uses the correct approaches and systems to recruit, on-board and manage one of its most vital and invaluable resources -- the volunteers responsible for navigating it toward successfully achieving its mission!

If you are a nonprofit founder, executive director, board member or interested in serving on a board or starting a nonprofit, this webinar is for you!

Michelle Nusum-Smith, owner and Principal Consultant at The Word Woman LLC, will present:

  • The core roles and responsibilities of the full board and individual board members

  • Effective strategies for recruiting the right people the right way

  • Effective processes for getting each board member to give and get financial donations

  • The benefits of a diverse board

She will also provide tips for managing the relationship between staff and board members.

Instructor Profile: Michelle Nusum-Smith, a licensed nonprofit consultant, coach and trainer, is owner and principal consultant at The Word Woman LLC, a consultancy that helps nonprofits, government agencies, and individuals to develop the skills, knowledge and resources to achieve their missions to do good. With nearly 20 years of nonprofit experience, Michelle has expertise in organizational development and leadership, board development, program development, financial management, fundraising, marketing, and community relations. She has extensive facilitation experience, including public and private workshops, trainings and retreats. Michelle is licensed to offer consulting services for the Maryland Nonprofit’s Standards for Excellence® program. She has the knowledge, skills and tools necessary to work with nonprofit organizations across the country interested in learning about and implementing the Standards for Excellence code. A graduate of the Honors Program at Coppin State University where she earned a BS in Management Science with a minor in Marketing, Michelle is a member of the Grants Professionals Association, the Association of Fundraising Professionals and Maryland Nonprofits. .

Cancellation Policy While The Word Woman LLC strives to ensure there are no disruptions in our workshop dates there may be occasion where issues arise that are out of our control. As a result we are committed to re-scheduling the program as soon as possible and providing options to participants.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable? Yes. You may edit the participicipant information by signing back into Evenbrite up to 24 hours before the live event.

What is the refund policy? All payments are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend the live webinar, a recording of the webinar will be provided to all registered persons.

What if my refund requests is due to technical issues? If a technical failure at your home or workplace prevents access to the live webinar, you will not be given a refund. It is your responsibility to confirm system requirements and test your computer prior to the start of the webinar. However, if a technical failure is the fault of the service provider and the webinar is cancelled, a full refund will be provided.
