Description

The Nonprofit Board Certification Program offers guidance for those serving or planning to serve on nonprofit boards. Designed as an engaging experience with opportunities for learning, discussion and practice, participants, regardless of experience, become more knowledgeable and strategic organizational leaders.

The program covers the following topics:

  • The challenges facing nonprofits and their boards
  • The roles, responsibilities and legal duties of the board
  • Nonprofit board structures and effective practices
  • Nonprofit strategies for funding and impact

Participants who complete this seminar, facilitated by Matthew Downey, will receive a Certificate in Nonprofit Board Leadership granted by the Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University.

Cost: $150 (includes materials and a light meal)
$10 for GVSU students/staff (includes materials and a light meal)

Matthew Downey has worked in the nonprofit sector as a consultant, program manager and development officer for more than 20 years. Presently, Matthew serves as the nonprofit services program director for the Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University where he oversees the Johnson Center’s technical assistance and capacity building services for nonprofit organizations.
