In creating and maintaining a nonprofit there are numerous legal requirements you need to know! This presentation will help you navigate the process successfully with information about state and federal laws applicable to forming a nonprofit, corporate governance requirements, state law considerations, and tips for completing the federal application for 501(c)3 status. A panel of developing and newly-formed nonprofits will share experiences, pitfalls and successes during their own unique journey to realizing their visions.
Presenters: Chris Nelson is a shareholder with the law firm of Dunlap & Seeger, P.A. He is a business attorney and serves as “Outside General Counsel” to non-profit organizations and businesses. He has incorporated multiple nonprofit organizations and helped them obtain 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Chris serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of United Way and is a member of the Board of Directors of First Alliance Credit Union. Panel speakers will include Melanie Brennan with Exercisabilities, Kristina Hesby with MedCity Foundation, and Dennis Mays with the Rochester Chess Club.
