"The Anatomy of an Award-Winning Campaign to Engage Millenials"

The #IGotItAtGoodwill campaign seeks to engage and grow a new generation of Goodwill brand ambassadors. The target audience (18- to 34-year-olds) is included in every aspect of the campaign, which focuses on local shoppers who wear Goodwill finds and are experts at finding trendy clothing and home decor on a budget. We will discuss the creation of a culture of sharing, and the anatomy of the award-winning campaign.

Karl Houston

Karl Houston As the Senior Director of Marketing and Community Relations, Karl Houston juggles a lot of projects. He leads an award-winning in-house marketing team in the creation of an integrated marketing campaign that supports Goodwill's mission of changing lives through education, training, and employment. At Goodwill, Houston is responsible for the development, coordination, and execution of the company’s brand, marketing, advertising/promotions, community relations, market research/consumer intelligence, communications, public, and media relations. He has also been named a finalist for Chief Marketing Officer Award. Houston has been with Goodwill since 1997, and his passion for the company is cemented in his belief that when we help others achieve their goals, and when we give back to the community, everyone wins when a life is changed. Houston is originally from Charleston, South Carolina. He’s married with three children – twin girls and a son who recently finished medical school at UT. Houston studied psychology and business administration at the University of South

Candace Newson

Candace Newson is an art-loving social media professional. She is currently living out her passion for engaging the online community at Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee. As the organization’s Online Media Manager, she most enjoys sharing the amazing low-cost items Goodwill shoppers find in stores. In her free time, Candace loves to photograph street art and visit art galleries in Nashville.

The Nashville Chapter of the American Marketing Association (NAMA) is one of 75 local AMA chapters in the United States and Canada. We provide networking, educational, and volunteer opportunities to help marketing professionals throughout Middle Tennessee get connected.

Founded in the late 1960s, NAMA today is stronger than ever. The Nashville Chapter’s membership has nearly tripled since 2004. We represent a diverse group of professionals from all facets of marketing including research, branding, communications, digital media, advertising, public relations, sales and consulting.

Our Mission Statement: “To be considered an essential resource to marketing professionals in our region by providing networking opportunities, professional development and the opportunity to contribute to the profession through chapter board participation and leadership.”
