Event description
Non-Fatal Strangulation & Intimate Partner Violence: Best Practice Response for First Responders & Medical Personnel

About this Event

Strangulation has been identified as one of the most lethal forms of domestic violence. In fact, unconsciousness may occur within seconds and death within minutes.

Strangulation is the ultimate form of power and control in an intimate partner relationship, where the abusive partner has control over the victim’s next breath and can result in devastating physical and psychological effects and a potentially fatal outcome.

It’s critical for dispatchers, EMS and E.D. staff to be trained in all aspects of strangulation in order to recognize the predominant signs and symptoms and to utilize the most effective best practice response.

Please join the Northwestern District Attorney in bringing awareness to these specific cases of domestic violence.
