Event description
Noenoe Nights at Mākena, workshop series by Ala Kukui and Mākena Golf & Beach Club honoring Maui's female nurses and caregivers.

About this Event

Ala Kukui and Mākena Golf & Beach Club are excited to present Noenoe Nights at Mākena. Noenoe Nights are a collaborative workshop series developed by Ala Kukui to uplift and celebrate wāhine (women) as reflections of our ancestors, the environment, and the elements.

Sponsored by Mākena Golf & Beach Club, the free workshop series will feature several evenings recognizing the roles wahine hold in the Maui community and to create connection through Hawaiʻi storytelling and arts and crafts . Each event will honor a sector of the community in which wāhine thrive. The evenings will be held at the clubʻs Mākena Vista lawn, a sunset soaked event location perched at 600 ft. elevation on the slopes of Haleakalā overlooking the Mākena area.

Their first workshop date of the year honors Maui’s wāhine (women) nurses and caregivers. Participants will create koko, floral hair accessories traditionally worn by female hula dancers. This workshop will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020, from 4:30 PM – 8 PM at the club’s Mākena Vista event lawn.

All self-identifying female registered nurses, nurses’ aides, nurse practitioners, and caregivers are invited to attend this event. The event is free, limited to 30 participants, and seats are offered on a first-to-register basis. Light pupu and refreshments will be provided. Attendees will experience an intimate evening of tasting as they enjoy Hawai'i storytelling and create their own koko (floral hair accessories) to start the new year.
