Event description

Description

In partnership with Bay Nature, come explore the Noe Valley neighborhood and look for nature great and small as part of the 2018 international City Nature Challenge. More than 60 cities will be competing to see who can make the most observations of nature, find the most species, and engage the most people.

Bioblitzes are gatherings of scientists, citizen scientists, land managers, and more, all working together to find and identify as many different species as possible. Bioblitzes not only help land managers build a species list and atlas for their park and provide invaluable data for researchers, they also highlight the incredible biodiversity in these Bay Area oases.

Our bioblitzes are open to anyone and are family-friendly. Just bring your smartphone with the iNaturalist app, your curiosity, and your powers of observation to help catalog the natural wonders of our neighborhoods, parks and open spaces.

This program leaves the Library. Participants should be prepared to walk a few blocks, possibly uphill, from the Library. This program is best for adults and children over 5 with their parents.

This is a Green Stacks event.

The Library’s drop-in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program is your chance to explore diverse activities in spontaneous construction, design thinking, and tinkering.
