Description

Join us for Movie Club! During these cold months of winter, we will be showing Great Lakes and maritime films. Tickets include the movie, popcorn and a soft drink.

The Ric Mixter Double Feature consists of two 30 minute cuts of two Great Lakes documentaries: Cutter Rescues and Safe Ashore! Total run time is 1 hour.

Tickets are $5 for members and $7 for non-members. Movie Club tickets do not inlcude museum admission, which can be purchased separately.

Cutter Rescues - Cutter Rescues chronicles the incredible career highlights of four Great Lakes Coast Guard cutters, from the first 'official' icebreaker Escanaba to the brand new GLIB Mackinaw. Host/Producer Ric Mixter shares rare film footage of the Escanaba, Hollyhock, Sundew and Mackinaw and also takes the viewer through three of the four ships. This includes a dive into the Atlantic Ocean to see the final resting place of the Hollyhock. Hear from eyewitnesses to the rescues from the shipwrecks Henry Cort, Cedarville, Dorchester, Nordmeer, and Carl D. Bradley. Break ice on the most powerful cutters on the lakes and meet the crews that keep the lakes safe today.

Safe Ashore: The 1940 Armistice Day Storm - It was Lake Michigan’s most terrifying storm. 126 mile per hour winds ripped the freighter Anna C. Minch in half ... and flipped the giant William Davock, killing all of it's crew. It also pushed the smaller Novadoc onto a sand bar, breaking it nearly in half. 17 sailors endured 36 hours in the doomed ship, finally rescued by 3 fishermen from Pentwater, Michigan.
