A Conversation with
Dr. Michael Eigen
Pain, Attitude, Multiplicity, Possibility

Sunday, October 29, 2017
9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Montclair State University - Conference Center

No human being ever lived without pain. We will trace various interactions between pain, attitude and possibility. Pain can radiate in many directions, at times permeate the psychic field, other times scarcely felt. Kinds of pain and range of response can be enormous. How much and what kind of experience can one take and make use of? We will discuss vicissitudes of pain and possibility and explore dimensions of experience pain can open or close

Michael Eigen, PhD is faculty, control- training analyst, senior member of the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis (NPAP), Former Program Chair and Editor of The Psychoanalytic Review, and NPAP Board of Directors, Adjunct faculty and supervisory consultant for the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, Author of twenty-six books and many papers. He is a Licensed psychologist.

Case Presenter:

Learning Objectives:
• To enrich appreciation of the many roles pain can play in life and expand and refine awareness of therapeutic
possibilities in face of it.
• Explore the roles of varied therapeutic attitudes and their uses at different times, e.g., kinds of openness, receptivity, active suggestions, and background support.
